Screwed & Socket weld Fittings

Socket welded and Screwed end fittings are used for sizes 1½” and smaller, in general .they are designated by pressure classes as follows .the pressure designations represent the maximum cold non-shock working pressure of the fitting in pounds per sq.inch (PSI)

2000# class: This class is applicable fo9r screwed fittings only and is covered in ASME B16.11 standard only. The corresponding pipe thickness for this class is sch40.

3000#class: Applicable for both screwed and socket weld fittings. Fittings under this class have inside diameter (bore) to suit Sch40 pipes.

6000# class:  Applicable for both Screwed and socket weld fittings. Under this class socket weld fittings are used with sch 160 piper and screwed fittings with sch xxs piper.

Screwed fittings shall be with tapered threads and shall be as per NPT as covered in American standard or BSPT as in British standards.

i) Unions:

The union is a fitting placed within a piping configuration that will allow the assembly to be disassembled for inspection, repair, or replacement. Union should be positioned in locations that will facilitate the easy removal of critical pieces of equipment.

2) Plug:

The plug, like a cap is designed to close off the end of a run of pipe. Plugs are manufactured for screwed fittings with male threads and are screwed into the end of a pipe to create a seal.

3) Coupling:

Although this fitting is used in butt welded applications as a branch connection, its primary use is to connect lengths of screwed and socket weld pipe together.
